Letters Scott Rolen Fouls Out In Philly

Posted: July 31, 2002

GROWING UP a Phillies fan in southern California was not easy. After the back-to-back NLCS losses to the Dodgers, there was no limit to the grief I got from my friends. I used to say that I rooted for the Phillies and whomever is playing the Dodgers.

Well, from now on, I will root for the Phillies and whomever is playing the St. Louis Cardinals.

First, God told J.D. Drew not to sign with the Phillies, then, greed and a thin skin told Scott Rolen to sulk his way out of town. Those two deserve each other, although I am not sure that the great baseball city of St. Louis does.

I am already planning my trip back to Philadelphia for the Cardinals' first visit with both Drew and Rolen so I can boo as lustily as the locals. Maybe now we can end all of that absurd talk that Rolen might be as good as Michael Jack. Go Phils. You didn't need that ingrate Rolen anyway.

Just when you think you know what a great hitter Ted Williams was here comes Ed Barkowitz with this incredible statistic - during his 56-game hitting streak in 1941 Joe DiMaggio hit .408 - Williams hit .412 during the same period. If he had played against the expansion-diluted pitching staffs in today's game who knows what records he might have set?

Re: Edward Moran's story on Keith Primeau (July 10):

Keith, you should think about last season every day. You're an embarrassment.

In case you don't know, the "C" on your chest is supposed to stand for CAPTAIN.

Not Can't score.

Can't shoot.

Can't skate.

Can't pass.

Ed Snider should have paid US to watch you play.

You can work out in Los Angeles with your personal trainer for the next 10 years, it's not going to help. You have no heart.

Just stay out in L.A. and join one of those Rollerblading beach leagues.

Just tell them to send us a couple of used sticks. that would be a fair trade.

It disgusts me that anyone would support Allen Iverson because he puts a ball in a hoop. He is a thug who does not have a moral bone in his body.

What really disgusts me are educated losers like defense attorney Richard Sprague. Here is a man who deserves to be in jail just like the people he defends.

Defense attorneys are on the same scale as rappers, NBA players and criminals. Without them I would be able to walk the streets without fear. My dream is to have Richard Sprague and every defense attorney locked up with the criminals they defend.

A.I. showed utter disrespect for authorities - as well as for the people of Philly - yesterday by wearing a T-shirt to his arraignment. He makes millions, yet he can't be bothered to put on a tie. Classy guy.

Allen, wake up! Can't you see what's going on? They don't like you so anything you do is going against you. If Allen wasn't a superstar, the DA, media or the Police Department could care less what he did; he would be just another man acting crazy.

Why don't you put on your cover a photo of a local missing child instead of Allen Iverson's mug shot? Please write about people we as humans can try to help. Iverson has to grow up and deal with his private life in a private manner. Missing children are most important news of the day. Please, Daily News, start stories on missing locals, maybe we can save a life. Allen Iverson's is on his own.
