Home ownership is focus of Bush visit to Ardmore

Posted: March 14, 2004

President Bush is scheduled to visit Ardmore tomorrow on a one-day visit to the Philadelphia area to discuss home ownership.

After touching down at the Philadelphia International Airport, Bush will meet briefly with a new home owner, then hold a news conference at the Main Line YMCA, 100 St. George's Rd., Ardmore.

Ardmore is in Lower Merion Township.

According to census data, 62.9 percent of Ardmore residents were home owners in 1999, compared with 71.3 percent in Pennsylvania and 66.2 percent nationwide.

That is the highest national percentage of home owners the U.S. Census Bureau has ever recorded. At the beginning of the 20th century, fewer than half of Americans were homeowners.
