Let's nominate this the Year of the Foxx

January 12, 2005|By Tirdad Derakhshani INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

One name keeps cropping up with the growing list of entertainment awards shows: Jamie Foxx. The Ray star, who has three nominations for this Sunday's Golden Globes, has just picked up four Screen Actors Guild nominations, two for Ray - as lead actor for the title role, and as part of the film's ensemble cast - plus one for supporting actor for the Tom Cruise thriller Collateral, and one for best actor in a TV movie or mini-series for the prison drama Redemption.

Story continues below.

Also recognized by SAG is the critics' darling road-trip comedy flick, Sideways, which got a leading four nominations, including noms for lead Paul Giamatti and the ensemble cast.

Four flicks had three noms each: Martin Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic, The Aviator; the mildly controversial study of Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie, Finding Neverland; the based-on-harsh-reality genocide drama Hotel Rwanda; and the boxing drama Million Dollar Baby.

You can see the SAGs being handed out Feb. 5 on TNT.

The Blackwell honors

* When it comes to awards, nothing comes close to Mr. Blackwell's list of the worst-dressed of the year. It's a list celebs would kill to stay off. So without further ado, the top honors for 2004's "mind-boggling mix of The Bad, The Sad, and The Downright Ugly" go to . . . Nicollette Sheridan. The Desperate Housewives star gets the dubious honor for being "a taste-free pain - Let's crown her the Tacky Temptress of Wisteria Lane!" Close in second place is everyone's favorite walking teenage nervous breakdown, Lindsay Lohan, who, the fashionista tells us, is "Over-hyped and under-dressed . . . . When it comes to fashion she's in a schizophrenic frenzy!" Rounding out the top three is a two-way tie between sisters Jessica and Ashlee Simpson: "These two prove that bad taste is positively genetic!"

This is the 45th year the august list has been published.

Tsunami telethon

* According to the Hollywood Reporter, Saturday's star-studded telethon to raise money for tsunami victims will feature some pretty big bold-faced names, including Madonna, Mary J. Blige, Diana Ross, Gloria Estefan, Tom Jones, John Mayer, Eric Clapton and Maroon 5, all of whom will perform during the NBC special, Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope.
