A pair of suspects were captured by police yesterday minutes after a robbery at a bank on Route 70 in Cherry Hill, police said.

Investigators said they believe the man and woman may be linked to more than a half-dozen other bank robberies in Camden, Burlington, Gloucester and Salem Counties, said Agent Steve Kodak, spokesman for the FBI office in Newark, N.J.

Police said a man with a scarf concealing his face walked into the Haddon Savings Bank shortly before noon, handed a teller a demand note, and received an undetermined amount of cash. The man left the bank and got into a green Jeep Cherokee driven by a woman.

A bank employee called police, and patrol cars were alerted. Officer Pete Benedetti pulled over a vehicle matching the description on Route 70 near Mercer Street, said Lt. Bill Kushina, spokesman for the Cherry Hill police.

Scott C. Bond and Jennifer L. Higgins, both 24 and from Penns Grove, Salem County, were arrested without incident, and most of the bank money was recovered, authorities said.

Bond and Higgins were charged with robbery and conspiracy and were held last night at the Camden County jail, with bail set at $100,000 each, Kushina said.

Federal charges were pending, Kodak said.

A slender white man of medium height between the ages of 19 and 26 has struck numerous South Jersey banks since October. In each case, Kodak said, the man wore a scarf.

Bond has red hair, weighs 150 pounds, and is 5-foot-8, Kushina said.
