Philly's a funny place. It seems there isn't much to do here on a Saturday night except head out to those loud, crowded nightclubs where the creeps hang out.

Well, ditch those pleather skirts and stilettos tonight and get ready for something different: yukking it up at comedy clubs and improv shows.

If you're in Center City, stop by the Trocadero, 1003 Arch St., at 8 p.m. for some improv groups. Catch the long-form improv of Hypnotoad, the video sketches of Secret Pants, the short-form "N-prov" of the N Crowd, and the choose-your-own-comedy performances of Elaschtick. The event is also the launch party for Tony DiGerolamo's new comic strip, Super Frat. $8, $3 with a Wizard World Philadelphia ticket. Call 267-278-5250 or visit www.thetroc.com.

ComedySportz, at the Playground, 2030 Sansom St., delivers reliable performances at 7:30 and 10 p.m. weekly. Two teams of "act-letes" compete for points playing improv games, and the audience is part of the action. $15, $12 students. Call 1-877-985-2844 or visit www.comedysportzphilly.com.

If you're up for dinner and a show, the Spaghetti Warehouse Comedy Club, 1026 Spring Garden St., is the place to be at 7. For $24.95, enjoy a nice meal and be entertained by Jim Rotundo and Los Angeles-based Ronnie Long, with emcee Mark Wallace. Call 215-787-0784 to make a reservation.

Can't make it out to the city? Comedy Cabaret will be at Poco's Restaurant, 625 N. Main St. in Doylestown. At 9:30, Kevin Sullivan, who calls himself "The Black Coffee of Comedy - Dark and Bitter," returns to pick on old people and youngsters. Comic juggler Kevin Lee and teacher-by-day Chip Chantry also appear. $15. Call 215-345-5653 or visit www.comedycabaret.com/doylestown.html.

The improv comedy troupe the GiggleMill will present an energized, interactive show in the Arcadia Theatre at Arcadia University in Glenside. $5, cash or check. Visit http://philipjacobson.com/_wsn/page4.html.
