Christine's moral amnesia

Posted: June 27, 2006

JUST FINISHED reading Christine M. Flowers' op-ed on America's moral superiority.

Christine, you overlooked something in your recount of America's long moral history. What about slavery? What about public lynchings and Jim Crow? What about the Native Americans and "manifest destiny"?

America has no moral superiority. As a black man, the likes of George Bush scare me more than any Arab. War is hell. Zarqawi may have committed some barbaric acts, but he never carried out any attacks on American soil.

Why are people so happy about Zarqawi's death anyway? I thought they were supposed to be looking for bin Laden?

The fact remains: America has no right to be in Iraq, and the Iraqis have every right to defend their homeland by any means necessary.

America has a consistent policy of using people, abusing them, nearly wiping them off the face of the earth, and then depicting the victims as savages to justify it. If that's not evil, I don't know what is.
