What we like: The Villanova shop sells bunches of fresh flowers, ideal to surprise a sweetheart, for just $10 every day. The colorful floral selections include carnations, mini-carnations, alstroemeria, limonium and monticasino aster.

Flowers on the Avenue is a full-service store that for more than 20 years has offered garden-style arrangements customized for weddings and funerals as well as personalized get-well arrangements, bouquets for proms, and single stems for dance recitals and school award nights.

The shop offers same-day order and delivery of live plants, cut-flower arrangements, balloons, teddy bears, and fruit baskets to towns along the Main Line, as well as worldwide delivery via wire service.

The shop's living plant selections include an eight-inch Red Duchess philodendron for $21.95, a six-inch golden pothos for $9.95, and a 10-inch split-leaf philodendron for $29.95.

What else: Original design jewelry by Christopher Flegal, store manager, fills a case at the front of the store. The semiprecious jewel items include eyeglass chains, rosaries, earrings and necklaces starting at $10.

He also makes and sells beaded jewelry in more than 120 colors starting at $20 for earrings and $25 for a necklace.

The store also sells misting bowls. These cool-to-the-touch water vapor fountains turn tap water into a mist that adds humidity to a room without the use of chemicals. The bowls start at $25.
