Germantown Academy junior Caroline Doty, one of the most sought-after high school basketball players in the country, is scheduled to announce her college choice at a news conference at the school today at 3 p.m.

The 5-foot-10 Doty has made visits to Penn State, Maryland, Connecticut, Notre Dame and Tennessee within the last year. She was observed this summer at an AAU tournament in Oregon by some of the biggest names in college coaching, such as Pat Summitt of Tennessee and Geno Auriemma of Connecticut.

"I wasn't pushing myself and I wasn't feeling any pressure from outside to make my choice now," said Doty, who scored a goal Saturday in the Patriots' 6-1 Inter-Academic League soccer win over Penn Charter. "I've been doing my homework since I was a freshman. I've been visiting colleges and seeing what life is like there, outside of basketball. It's been awesome. I just had a gut feeling that now was the time to make my decision."

After announcing her decision, Doty says, she will be able to concentrate on helping the Patriots' bid for a ninth straight Inter-Ac title.

She is expected to play guard in college. Rated the No. 6 high school guard in the country by Scout.com, Doty is an excellent three-point shooter who can also go to the basket. She has averaged about 20 points a game in two seasons with the Patriots.

Doty is very high on Germantown Academy's prospects for this season, mentioning one teammate in particular.

"We've got a new freshman guard, Maggie Lucas, and she can shoot the lights out," Doty said.
