Seminoles, UCLA to meet in Emerald Bowl

Bobby Bowden and Florida State are headed to San Francisco for the first time, to take on UCLA in the Emerald Bowl.

The Seminoles (6-6) will play UCLA (6-5) for the first time on Dec. 27 at AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants.

In other bowl news:

* Northern Illinois (7-5) and TCU (9-2) will kick off the bowl season in the Dec. 19 Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.

* No. 21 California (8-3) accepted an invitation to play in the Dec. 28 Holiday Bowl, also in San Diego.

* Western Michigan (8-4) will play in the inaugural International Bowl in Toronto on Jan. 6 - the first bowl game outside the United States since the 1937 Bacardi Bowl in Havana.

* Central Michigan (8-4) will play in the Motor City Bowl on Dec. 26, becoming the first team from Michigan to play in the decade-old game set for Ford Field in Detroit.

* Tulsa (8-4) will play Utah (7-5) in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 23 in Fort Worth, Texas.

* Rice (7-5) will make its first bowl appearance since 1961, playing in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 22.

* East Carolina (7-5) accepted a bid to play in the first Bowl in Birmingham, Ala., on Dec. 23.

* San Jose State (7-4) will play New Mexico (6-6) in the inaugural New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 23.

* Arizona State (7-5) will play No. 24 Hawaii (10-2) in the Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24 in coach Dirk Koetter's last game with the Sun Devils. He was fired Sunday.

* Oregon State (8-4), the only team to beat USC this season, accepted a bid to play in the Dec. 29 Sun Bowl.


* Tulane fired coach Chris Scelfo after 8 years and only two winning seasons. Tulane went 4-8 this season and Scelfo's overall record was 37-57 with only one postseason bowl appearance, a 36-28 victory over Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl in 2002 following a 7-5 season. *
