Senior Erica Pollock, who grabbed 13 rebounds in the loss by the Hawks (8-8, 1-2), set a school record with nine blocked shots. Stephanie Graff set the previous mark with seven against Duquesne in January 2004.
Jenna Loschiavo and Ayahna Cornish each scored 12 points for St. Joseph's, and Jen Oyler added 11 points.
"It was great coming home," Holzer said. "I had at least 30 people here from my family and friends.
"I've never been involved in a game as intense as this. Conference games mean so much. Our team is one of those teams that will never give up, even if we're down by 30."
"She did a great job," St. Joseph's coach Cindy Griffin said. "She was a great player in high school. They did a good job getting the ball inside to her and they needed her."
The Hawks led by 15 several times in the second half, including 41-26 with 12 minutes, 15 seconds left in regulation before the Spiders rallied.
"We knew when we were down 15, we couldn't trade baskets. We had to stop them," Powell said. "I've never been in a double overtime before."
"We took bad shots down the stretch and our backcourt did not play smart," Griffin said. "We know better than that, and that's why this is disappointing."

La Salle 61, Rhode Island 57 - Carlene Hightower scored 26 points for the Explorers (14-4), who set a school record with their sixth straight home win at Tom Gola Arena. The Rams are 4-13.
