Leonard Rich, 70, veteran Philly cop

Leonard Rich, a 28-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department who later worked in security for the General Electric Space Center Command and Wade Cable Co., died March 7.

He was 70 and lived in Frederick, Del.

"He is remembered most as being a distinguished, generous man," his family said.

"He is gone but he will never be forgotten."

Leonard was born in Philadelphia to Daisy Lee Allen and David Melvin Rich. He attended John Bartram High School and joined the police force shortly after graduating.

He married Mary N. Rich in 1954 and they had five daughters, Catherine Kemp, Marie Hannibal, LaWhan Yancy, Linda Gusoff and Lenora Jones, and two sons, Leonard Rich Jr. and Bernard Rich.

In 1982, he married Judith Golson, and they had a son, Morgan Rich, and adopted a daughter, Stephanie Grimes.

Leonard had to receive a top-secret clearance to work for the GE Space Center. He retired from Wade Cable in 2001. He was then able to pursue his hobbies of boating, fishing and gardening.

He was a member of Lodge 5, Fraternal Order of Police.

He also is survived by 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Clifton Bernard Rich and Kenneth Rich, and a grandson, Wayne Keith Jerwhan Rich.

Services: Were held yesterday. Burial was in Mount Lawn Cemetery, Sharon Hill. *
