Temple women hitting the road

Posted: March 17, 2007

Temple's travel plans to Raleigh, N.C., for tomorrow night's first-round game in the NCAA women's basketball tournament were affected by yesterday's weather.

The Owls originally were scheduled to fly on Southwest Airlines at 1:15 p.m. before the airline canceled its operations here for the remainder of the day.

The team then decided to practice at home and take a bus in the late afternoon, with arrival in Raleigh expected around 2 o'clock this morning.

"We have a full bus," said Temple spokeswoman Aimee Cicerio. "All of our athletic department officials who were expecting to fly are now going with us."

Temple, which is seeded eighth and will meet ninth-seeded Nebraska, will have plenty of time to rest today, however, according to the schedule involving eight teams.

The Owls' news conference at the RBC Center is slated today for 4:20 p.m., with practice to follow at 5 p.m. Temple's game tomorrow night will start around 9:30, or thirty minutes after the close of a game in which Duke, the No. 1 overall seed of the NCAA tournament, will meet No. 16 Holy Cross at 7 p.m.

Those four teams are part of the Greensboro Regional.

The other four teams, No. 4 North Carolina State, No. 13 Robert Morris, No. 5 Baylor, and No. 12 Chattanooga, are part of the Fresno Regional.
