Former Roman star Ringgold chooses Rider for college ball

Posted: March 30, 2007

Mike Ringgold is coming home for college. Home, that is, if you're OK with a slightly expanded definition.

Ringgold, a 6-7 forward now at The Winchendon School, in Massachusetts, and for the previous 2 years a star at Roman Catholic, has made an oral commitment to play basketball at Rider, in nearby Lawrenceville, N.J.

He'll join St. Joseph's Prep point guard Matt Griffin in the Class of 2011.

Robin Ringgold said her son "was just looking for a school that would be a good fit. That's the way he feels about Rider."

She added: "I was OK with whatever was going to make him happy. I just wanted to see him get situated. I do know he wanted to stay close to home."

Robin Ringgold said she believed Mike's second choice was Northeastern, and that he had also given strong consideration to Delaware.

In 2006, Ringgold was the coaches' Catholic South MVP and a second team Daily News All-City selection. *
