Sen. Specter votes wrong on Iraq

Posted: April 12, 2007

I'M WRITING in response to the Daily News' recent coverage of congressional action concerning our country's occupation of Iraq.

The Associated Press reported on March 28 that a majority in the Senate voted to make funding the troops dependent on a timetable for bringing them home. Most of us here in Philly, and probably the rest of the state, agree with that.

Sen. Arlen Specter even said in February that he believed that President Bush's "troop surge" (sending 21,500 more Americans to war in Iraq) was a bad idea.

The senator said that more troops in Iraq would be about as effective as throwing "a snowball in July"! My question: If the senator doesn't think Iraq can be won with American military power, why'd he vote AGAINST bringing our soldiers home?

If he thinks our president's strategy in Iraq is bad, why'd he vote AGAINST holding Mr. Bush accountable? If you ask me, Sen. Specter flip-flopped on Iraq. He needs to listen to the voters and push to bring our soldiers home soon.
