McNabb said what?

Posted: May 10, 2007

WE'RE NOT A BIG FAN of all this Donovan McNabb bashing and soap-opera atmosphere that seems to surround him, 'cause if you simplify things, all the guy has done here since becoming the starting QB is win.

Anyway, interesting item from ESPN Radio. On March 29, McNabb said the following when asked by "The Herd" host Colin Cowherd what would happen if the Eagles drafted a QB:

"That wouldn't bother me at all. I'm the QB of the team, and I will continue to be. But I think it's important to begin to groom somebody for 15 to 20 years down the road [laughing]."

There you have it.

Bad day

It seems as if the dog days of summer - which, in our terms, means being stuck watching one major sports team - have arrived. And since the Phillies are floundering a bit, we thought we'd look up some fond memories of what happened on May 10 in past years.

Well, believe it or not, the pickings are slim. In 1980, the 76ers lost Game 3 of the Finals to the Lakers, 111-101, at the Spectrum, giving Los Angeles a 2-1 lead in the series they eventually won in six games. But, hey, at least they were in the Finals. In 2004, the Flyers evened the Eastern Conference finals with Tampa Bay at 1-1 with a 6-2 win. As you might remember, the Flyers lost that one in seven games. Then came the strike, and things have slid a little bit.

Huh?

Basestealing leader Rickey Henderson caught a foul ball while at the Giants game Monday. A young fan sitting near Henderson asked for the ball. Henderson declined, but did sign a ball the youngster already had.

"I said, 'You're not getting this ball,' " he said, according to the Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J. "I always wanted to get a foul ball. This one's going on a shelf at home." *
