La Salle's Grimes headed to Columbia

Brian Grimes, who appeared in all 30 games as a freshman last season for La Salle, has announced he will be transferring to Columbia to play for former Villanova assistant Joe Jones.

"To be able to play and go to school in the Ivy League made it an easier decision for me," said Grimes, who will sit out the mandatory one season. "Coach Jones is builing a good program and his running style will suit my game. It will give me a chance to play both the post and go out on the wing."

Grimes battled knee and ankle problems throughout last season, limiting the 6-7 Germantown Academy product to 12 minutes a game. He averaged 4 points and 2.5 rebounds.

"Overall, La Salle just wasn't a good fit for me, across the board," he said. "Going to Columbia, it will be tough because it's the first time I'll be playing basketball outside of Philly. But I'm really excited."

Said La Salle coach John Giannini: "Brian's a really good person and we wish him the best." *
