A 2-year-old Camden boy was killed yesterday when a van veered onto the sidewalk and struck the child and his grandmother.

Jasir Coar was being pushed in a stroller by his grandmother about 12:30 a.m. in front of the Chestnut Court apartments in Camden, where they lived, when the accident happened, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and Camden police said.

The driver of the minivan, whose name was not released, told police he swerved to avoid something in the street. No charges were filed, and the driver voluntarily submitted a blood sample for testing, police said. The investigation will continue pending the test results.

Jasir's grandmother, Loraine Coar, was taken to Cooper University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
