Silk City's on a roll

We're still test-driving the new menu at the retro-revived Silk City Diner. But chef Peter Dunmire (Rouge and, lately, N. 3rd bar) is already showing his sure hand with flavors in the tender, ungreasy duck (which he slow-cooks in its own fat with star anise and other Asian spices) and mushroom spring rolls. Dipped in spicy mustard and a bright, sweet chile sauce, they're perfect with the diner's Sly Fox weiss beer on tap.

Duck spring rolls, six bite-sized pieces with cabbage-carrot slaw, $9, at Silk City Diner, 432 Spring Garden St., 215 592-8838.
