AT&T National Notes

BETHESDA, Md. - Considering he was battling an upset stomach during the round, Sean O'Hair had no complaints about his 1-over par yesterday in the AT&T National.

"For how I'm feeling, that 71 feels like 4 under," said the 24-year-old O'Hair, a Texas native now living in West Chester.

O'Hair's stomach started acting up at lunchtime, before his 1:15 tee time at Congressional Country Club.

The round involved at least one unscheduled, hurried comfort stop.

"He toughed it out, though," said Steve Lucas, his father-in-law and caddie.

O'Hair's card showed three bogeys and two birdies, culminating in a long blast from the bunker at the par-5 ninth - his final hole - for a tap-in birdie.

His statistics were so-so: seven of 14 fairways hit, 11 of 18 greens. He had no three-putts and seven one-putts, including a 27-foot birdie bomb at the sixth.

White House fireworks

If you wanted to watch the Fourth of July fireworks in the nation's capital, a nice vantage point was from the veranda of the White House.

That's what happened to a lucky few PGA Tour players Wednesday night who are in town for the AT&T National. With their wives, the players - Fred Funk, Brad Faxon, Justin Leonard, Davis Love III, Phil Mickelson, Paul Azinger and Jeff Maggert - also helped President Bush celebrate his 61st birthday a couple of days early.

"I don't really know how it all came about, but it sure was fun," Mickelson said. "It was a very surreal experience to be on the veranda watching the fireworks with both President Bushes and their wonderful wives."
