Pa. budget crisis won't affect racing

Posted: July 09, 2007

The ongoing budget talks and possible furlough of more than 24,000 state workers will not affect the start of the second season for live racing at Harrah's in Chester.

The 95-day season is set to begin today with live harness racing on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through Dec. 20.

Certain to draw a crowd is the Ben Franklin Free-For-All Pace final on Sunday, July 22, which will carry a $300,000 purse.

The second season of live racing will kick off at 3:30 p.m. today. However, should the partial government shutdown go into effect, Harrah's Casino will be closed.

Harrah's Chester Casino & Racetrack is at 777 Harrah's Blvd., in Chester. For information, call 800-480-8020. *
