A 90-year-old man shot his ailing wife to death in their South Jersey home, then killed himself in an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said today.

The couple were found dead today inside a home on Barbet Drive in Voorhees by a family member, police said.

Robert Donald Bryson, 90, and Ruth Bryson, 85, both sustained gunshot wounds.

The man was shot in the abdomen in what authorities said was a self-inflicted wound. A .32-caliber revolver was found near his body.

Ruth Bryson, 85, had been terminally ill, according a joint statement from the Camden County Prosecutor and Voorhees police chief. An investigator with the county Medical Examiner's office revealed a small-caliber gunshot wound to her chest. The wound had previously been undetectable because it caused no outward bleeding and was masked by clothing and bedding, according to the statement.

"Preliminary investigation indicates the male decedent shot his wife and then himself," the statement says.
