Municipal building burns in Lehigh County

Posted: July 31, 2007

A fire burned through a municipal building in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, damaging township records and melting computers, officials said.

More than 150 firefighters responded Sunday to the fire, which Township Executive Dan McNeil said was likely caused by lightning.

The roof collapsed over some administrative offices, including that of the township secretary, where most records are kept.

Officials said they did not know how many records were damaged. McNeil said some records burned, but most were stored in fireproof cabinets. - AP
