Street improvements planned for Quakertown

Posted: July 31, 2007

A recently approved $900,000 grant will update Quakertown's shopping and business districts with new lighting, paving and other improvements. A revitalization group said its plans include lining a portion of Broad Street with Victorian-style street lights and landscaping a downtown park.

"It's representative of the changes we want to make to the downtown, making it more pedestrian-friendly and a better shopping destination," said Scott Soost of Quakertown Alive. The project also calls for installing faux brick crosswalks and replacing all the posts and arms on traffic signals.

Quakertown Alive manager Holly Edinger said she hopes work will begin next year, after approval by the state Department of Transportation. - AP
