An infant who was hospitalized June 25 with severe head injuries from an assault has died, and his Point Breeze father has been charged with murder, police said yesterday.

Jahfari Stevens, 5 months old, died Monday, police said. His father, Patrick Holness, 30, who had been free since posting 10 percent of $100,000 bail on charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault, was rearrested and charged with murder, detectives said.

Jahfari was in his father's care for the weekend when he was rushed to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with serious injuries that Holness contended had resulted from a fall in his home on the 1500 block of South Opal Street, police said.

After an investigation, police originally arrested Holness on July 12. - Joseph A. Gambardello
