Police officer injured in spinout on I-95

Posted: August 07, 2007

A Philadelphia police officer was seriously injured yesterday when his motorcycle apparently spun out on I-95, closing northbound lanes for about 90 minutes. Investigators were trying to determine what caused the crash near the Bridge Street exit in Bridesburg.

The officer, not immediately identified, was reported in guarded condition at Frankford Hospital-Torresdale Campus with a broken arm, road burns and other body bruising.

"Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet," said Officer Yolanda Dawkins, a police spokeswoman.

The northbound lanes were closed from about 3 until 4:30 p.m. because of the crash, and backups occurred on surrounding roadways into the evening rush. - Joseph A. Gambardello
