Driver killed in car hit by shots in Southwest Phila.

Posted: August 08, 2007

Gunfire pelted a car in Southwest Philadelphia early yesterday, killing the driver and causing the vehicle to crash, police said. Police said that after the victim was shot about 2 a.m., his car hit two parked vehicles and flipped over in the 1000 block of South 59th Street.

The man, who died at the scene and was not immediately identified, had dropped off a friend just before the shooting, Homicide Sgt. William Gallagher said. The friend was questioned by detectives and is not a suspect.

The motive for the shooting is uncertain. "We don't know if it was a robbery attempt or if there was an argument," Gallagher said.- Peter Mucha
