PITTSBURGH - A city police officer and an auto-theft suspect fell more than 30 feet during a foot pursuit yesterday near the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.

Officer Daniel Hartung spotted a stolen car around 4:15 a.m. yesterday and chased the suspect, who drove to a road near the zoo. The man jumped out of the car, and the chase continued on foot. The man went over a fence, apparently not realizing that there was a large, steep drop on the other side. The officer followed and also fell, police said. Police did not immediately release the name of the suspect. He broke several bones and was treated at a hospital. Hartung was also taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, police said. - AP
