A man drowned yesterday in Burlington County's Willingboro Lake.

The 27-year-old man had been attempting to swim to an island in the middle of the lake, located off Route 130 near Beverly-Rancocas Road, according to Joe O'Brien, who arrived with friends just minutes after the victim went underwater. O'Brien, of Burlington Township, said his twin brother, D.J., swam down and pulled the man's body to the surface. They attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation once they got the victim on shore. "You do what you have to do," he said.

The man was at the lake with two other men and two women. The group was Latino and spoke little English, O'Brien said. The victim was transported to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro and pronounced dead just after 3 p.m., according to a hospital spokeswoman.
