Merrill over par at U.S. Amateur

Posted: August 21, 2007

Penn senior Dean Merrill was 4-over par after nine holes at the fog-delayed U.S. Amateur at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.

Merrill, who is six strokes behind the leader, will play this morning in the second round of stroke play. The field of 312 will be reduced after today's play to the low 64, who will advance to match play.

Merrill, of Kansas City, is the first Quaker to qualify while still in school since recent graduate Sean Barrett in 2005. *
