Disabled list claims two more Phils

Think about what has happened to the Phillies this season and try to figure out what these 10 players have in common: Antonio Alfonseca, Pat Burrell, Greg Dobbs, Cole Hamels, Wes Helms, Jamie Moyer, Abraham Nunez, Jimmy Rollins, Aaron Rowand and Carlos Ruiz.

Think hard.

They're the only players who have been with the team since opening day and have not been on the disabled list.

Mike Zagurski and Yoel Hernandez became the 15th and 16th players, respectively, to be placed on the disabled list. Zagurski strained his right hamstring Saturday at PNC Park. Hernandez, who just replaced Zagurski on the 25-man roster Sunday, has a sore right shoulder. Both had MRIs yesterday.

The Phillies recalled lefthander Fabio Castro from triple-A Ottawa to take Hernandez's place.

"Strength in numbers," Zagurski joked.

It has been a remarkable season for the Phils, who have put themselves in contention for the postseason despite a 4-11 start and countless injuries. Zagurski and Hernandez join Adam Eaton (right-shoulder inflammation, placed on the DL on Wednesday), Rod Barajas (strained right groin, Aug. 3), Shane Victorino (strained right calf, July 31), Michael Bourn (sprained left ankle, July 31), Ryan Madson (strained right shoulder, July 29), Chase Utley (broken right hand, July 27), Jon Lieber (ruptured tendon in right foot, June 21), Francisco Rosario (right-shoulder inflammation, June 16), Freddy Garcia (strained right shoulder, June 9), and Scott Mathieson (Tommy John surgery, September 2006) on the disabled list.

That's 11 players.

Ryan Howard, Chris Coste and Jayson Werth also spent time on the DL.

Victorino and Barajas were scheduled to continue their rehab last night for single-A Lakewood.

"Give them credit," manager Charlie Manuel said. "We've held our own. They've stayed in there and fought. They've battled. That's what we've always done. I think that's why the fans come to see us play."
