Stray bullet hits woman inside a S. Phila. store

Posted: September 13, 2007

A stray bullet made its way inside a South Philadelphia bodega yesterday afternoon, seriously wounding a woman working inside the store.

Police said the gunfire happened about 4:10 p.m. outside Morris Food Market, 1644 S. 28th St., the Grays Ferry section of South Philadelphia. The shooters - two older teenage boys - fled, police said. It was unclear last night whether the teens had been shooting at each other or aimed somewhere else.

Police said the victim, who they only identified as being in her 30s but who neighbors said is the wife of the store owner, was hit in the back and taken to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was listed in good condition last night.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Edward Tolliver at 215-686-3013. - Kathleen Brady Shea
