Dawkins hurt making tackle

Posted: September 18, 2007

Days after deciding to let safety/return specialist J.R. Reed go - again - Andy Reid was asked whether he was OK with his depth at the safety position.

"I am," the Eagles coach said.

It will be interesting to see how Reid feels about that this week.

Brian Dawkins left the game in the fourth quarter with what was later called a neck stinger. The Eagles' defensive leader, who only hours before had entertained the crowd with his introductory dance, was down for some time after laying out Todd Yoder during the Redskins' opening drive of the quarter.

Eventually able to stand up, Dawkins looked as if he was trying to make his way back to the huddle before the team's athletic trainers led him toward the tunnel, a decision Dawkins didn't seem too happy about.

He did not return to the game, pressing Sean Considine and Quintin Mikell into full-time service.

Reid did not expand on Dawkins' status, except to say he had that stinger. *
