Domowitch's Eagles-Bears Report Card

October 22, 2007|By PAUL DOMOWITCH

Here are the grades from the Eagles' 19-16 loss to Chicago:

RUSHING OFFENSE

An Eagle ground game that averaged a run-at-will 5.2 yards per carry in the first half was nowhere to be found in the second half. Brian Westbrook had just 20 yards on six carries in the final two quarters.

Grade: C

PASSING OFFENSE

The only time the Eagles' passing game ever was in sync was on the lone touchdown drive. The rest of the game was a collection of poor throws by McNabb and dropped passes by his receivers. The rest of the game, McNabb averaged just 5.75 yards per attempt.

Story continues below.

Grade: D

RUN DEFENSE: The Bears haven't been able to run the ball all season and they didn't have any better luck against the Eagles, who held them to 72 rushing yards and 3.1 yards per carry.

Grade: A-minus

PASS DEFENSE

The Eagles made journeyman Brian Griese look like John Elway on the Bears' game-winning 97-yard drive as he completed 7 of 9 passes (plus 2 clock-stopping spikes). Where was the pressure? Where was the coverage?

Grade: D-minus

SPECIAL TEAMS

Sav Rocca did keep the ball away from Devin Hester, but too often at the expense of any distance. Two of his four punts failed to go more than 27 yards, though he did pin the Bears on their 3 late in the game. Eagles' returners turned in their usual forgettable performances.

Grade: C

OVERALL

The Eagles' red-zone woes continued as they converted just 1 of 4 trips inside the 20 into a touchdown. The defense held the Bears without a touchdown for 58 minutes, then let them drive 97 yards for the game-winning score.

Grade: F
