Phantoms follow fast start to victory

Ryan Potulny, Jared Ross and Josh Beaulieu scored in the opening period last night to give the Phantoms all the goals they would need en route to a 6-2 AHL victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Wachovia Spectrum.

It was the Phantoms' third straight win.

The Phantoms (25-10-1) increased their lead to 5-0 in the second period on goals by Pete Zingoni and Lars Jonsson.

Kyle Greentree's goal made it 6-0 at 8 minutes, 32 seconds of the third period before Bridgeport (17-18-1) scored twice.

The Tigers' Jeff Tambellini scored a shorthanded goal at 9:04 of the third. Michael Haley completed the scoring at 18:25 of the period.

Phantoms goalie Scott Munroe recorded 33 saves. Bridgeport's Mike Morrison turned away 22 shots.

The first-place Phantoms lead the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins by eight points in the AHL's East Division.

The Phantoms will visit the Lowell Devils on Wednesday.
