Man is hit and robbed on Market-Frankford line

Posted: April 06, 2008

Police yesterday were investigating the reported robbery of a man by three others on the Market-Frankford subway line late Friday.

The victim, whose name was not released, told police that three men had demanded money after he boarded a train at 13th Street. One struck him in the face and stole $20, he said.

The victim left the train at 15th Street and reported the crime to a SEPTA cashier, who notified police. The victim was treated at Hahnemann University Hospital and released.

This was the third reported incident of violence on the subway system in 10 days. On Wednesday, a woman reported she was assaulted at Eighth and Market. On March 26, Sean Patrick Conroy, 36, a Starbucks manager in Center City, was beaten and kicked on the concourse at 13th and Market Streets, triggering a fatal asthma attack. Five teenagers have been charged in the Conroy case. - Inquirer staff
