Mike Mayock's take on the defensive crop

Mayock: "He's not Sean Taylor. He's not Ed Reed. Doesn't have the instinctiveness that those other Miami guys had. But he's got great size and speed and is going to be a solid starting safety in the NFL. Somebody might step up and take him late in the first round, but I think he'll probably go in the second.''

The Riser

Tyrell Johnson, Arkansas State

6-0, 207

40 time: 4.41

Projected round: 2

Mayock: "His measurables at the combine were way beyond what people expected. Ran a 4.44 and bench-pressed 225 27 times. When you put the tape on, he's a really good football player. He's tough. He tackles. He's aggressive. He can run. He can cover.''

The Sleeper

Corey Lynch, Appalachian State

6-0 1/2, 202

40 time: 4.58

Projected round: 7-free agency

Mayock: "Had 18 career interceptions and that big blocked kick in the win over Michigan. He's one of those guys who will be a late pick or even a free agent. But he's smart and tough and runs faster than people think. At his Pro Day, he ran a 3.99 in the short shuttle, which was faster than every corner in the draft. That tells you he has great change of direction. I think he'll have a 10-year NFL career.''
