Russert's books top Amazon.com sales chart

Posted: June 17, 2008

TV journalist Tim Russert's books have risen to the top of Amazon.com's sales chart since his death Friday.

Big Russ and Me: Father and Son: Lessons of Life, in paperback, ranked No. 1, while Wisdom of Our Fathers: Lessons and Letters from Daughters and Sons, was No. 2, over the 24-hour period through 3 p.m. yesterday, the largest online bookseller said.

"Interest in Tim Russert's books has increased since his untimely death," said Tammy Hovey, Amazon's public relations manager for media products.

From the announcement of Russert's death Friday, over the next 24 hours, Big Russ rose from No. 40, and Wisdom rose from No. 71, according to Amazon data posted on the company's Web site.

The hard-cover version of Big Russ, first published in 2004, ranked third among Amazon sales yesterday, Hovey said. She declined to disclose the number of each book sold.

Wisdom was originally published in 2006. Each book topped the New York Times nonfiction best-seller list for a time during the year of its publication.

Russert had hosted the weekly Washington political news program Meet the Press since 1991. Big Russ reviewed Russert's views on America (he was patriotic); sports (he followed the Yankees and the Bills); and religion (he was Roman Catholic), among other topics, and traced the development of his own views to his father, a World War II veteran and truck driver from Buffalo.
