Time for 'Daddy' John Edwards to fess up?

Posted: August 07, 2008

THE NATIONAL Enquirer inches closer to a Frances Quinn Hunter blood test - taken with a 200-foot needle aimed from a very steady helicopter.

For those of you who haven't been paying attention to Tattle or the (growing) handful of outlets who've picked up on the Enquirer's story, Frances is reportedly John Edwards' love child.

Love child. Lust child. Whatever.

Ramping up its story from a mere hotel sighting to large hush-money payoffs, the Enquirer is now running a photo of Edwards, wearing a "baby" blue T-shirt, holding Frances in a hotel room at the Beverly Hilton.

Tattle can't figure out where the photographer was to get the photo - in a potted plant? Coiled up in the mini-fridge? - but it's clearly Edwards and he's holding a baby.

Tattle has held many babies we had not fathered - at least not to our knowledge - and it remains a possibility, albeit an ever-diminishing one, that Edwards and Rielle Hunter are just campaign buddies and his old paternal instinct kicked in when he saw the toddler.

But come on.

With the photo and the hush-money allegations and the dwindling chance of a role in a possible Obama administration, it's time for Edwards to either publicly and unequivocally deny the whole thing and sue the Enquirer, tell a Clinton-esque lie - "I did not . . . impregnate . . . that woman" or make a YouTube video in which he kneels before Elizabeth and she beats the sanctimonious Ken doll stuffing out of him.

Morgan to be a free man

In other marriage news, Morgan Freeman's is on the rocks.

With speculation high as to what he and Demaris Meyer were doing together in her 1997 Maxima when it somersaulted off Route 32 in rural Mississippi, Freeman's pal and business partner, Bill Luckett, told "Access Hollywood" that Morgan and his wife of 24 years, Myrna Colley-Lee, "are involved in a divorce action."

"For legal and practical purposes, [they] have been separated since December of 2007," he said.

Interestingly, that nosy National Enquirer reported in its July 14 edition that Myrna had met with a divorce attorney because Morgan was cheating on her with a family friend. But according to the Enquirer, that friend was not Demaris Meyer.

Retired policeman Bill Rogers, who was the first person to arrive at the scene and seems to have more to say about it every day, said Tuesday that Freeman and Meyer were friends "and she had offered him a ride home and she didn't really know the way and so he was going to drive the vehicle."

Rogers said that he talked to Freeman and Meyer to keep them conscious - something he was trained to do as a police officer.

"They said they were coming from Clarksdale," Rogers said.

Freeman owns several businesses in Clarksdale, about 40 miles from his home, including the Ground Zero Blues Club and a restaurant named Madadi.

* Lisa Marie Presley is expecting twins this fall, her spokeswoman, Cindy Guagenti, said yesterday.

The daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley announced her pregnancy on MySpace in March, saying that she was forced to go public after chunky photos of her taking up MoreSpace were ridiculed in the media.

Lisa Marie, 40, married music producer Michael Lockwood in January 2006. She has two children from her marriage to musician Danny Keough, which ended in 1994. She was briefly married to Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage.

"It's her time to celebrate with her husband," Priscilla said Tuesday in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight." "My daughter is a very family girl. She loves children, and I know that she and Michael have been hoping for this for a long time."

She said that twins run in the family "on Elvis' side, and on my side, too. I have twin brothers, and then, of course, Elvis had a twin brother [who died at birth]."

* Paris Hilton memorized her entire monologue, including her energy plan, in an online spoof posted on funnyordie.com, content director Amy Rhodes said.

Co-founder Adam McKay came up with the concept for a mock ad starring Hilton, which has received over 3 million views since it was posted Tuesday.

"Adam thought it would be really funny to get Paris to respond to the John McCain ad that featured her," Rhodes told the Associated Press. "Adam contacted Paris directly, and she agreed to do it. He wrote the sketch. And she really, really loved it."

In the video, Hilton - clad in a leopard-print swimsuit and heels while lounging poolside - announces her candidacy for president and suggests an energy plan that combines elements of McCain's offshore oil drilling plan and Barack Obama's incentives for new energy technology. Her running mate? Rihanna.

"I want America to know that I'm, like, totally ready to lead," she says.

Hilton was not paid "because she decided she just wanted to do it for fun," Rhodes said.

She may also have wanted to counter the misperception that when she first saw the McCain spot she wondered who the black guy was in her commercial.

* Californian Matthew O'Sullivan, identified as an employee of the company that makes "Girls Gone Wild" videos, has been arrested on charges that he groped a 20-year-old woman aboard a bus outside Nubar in Smithtown, N.Y.

"Girls Gone Wild" held an event at Nubar Tuesday night. Afterward, the woman told police that she was invited onto the bus and subjected to "unwanted sexual contact."

She thought it was the "Girls Gone Mild" bus.
