C is for the Catholic League, which today officially begins its journey in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).
D is for the Del-Val League, which welcomes longtime independent Glen Mills. Can the Battling Bulls put an end to Interboro's 10-year stranglehold on the first-place hardware?
E is for ESPNU, which will televise the Oct. 17 showdown between Catholic League rivals St. Joseph's Prep and Cardinal O'Hara. Can the Lions halt the Prep's regular-season league winning streak?
F is for Ferguson, as in Malvern Prep's Sean Ferguson. The senior two-way tackle is listed, perhaps conservatively, at 6-foot-5 and 340 pounds. "If he lays on a guy, that guy is probably going to be out for a couple of plays," Friars coach Gamp Pellegrini quipped.
G is for Gateway, the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) member that was ranked No. 3 in the nation in USA Today's preseason top 25 poll. The Gators, from Monroeville, return 15 starters.
H is for Heath, as in West Chester Henderson's Brandon Heath. The 6-5, 310-pound two-way lineman has a handful of Division I scholarship offers. Temple is one of the schools keeping close tabs on the ever-improving giant.
I is for Imhotep Charter. Powerful in basketball, the Panthers hope to make noise on the gridiron as well. A leader for coach Marc Wilson is senior fullback/linebacker Daniel Jones. The 6-2, 215-pounder is hearing from Temple, Northeastern and Connecticut.
J is for the Jaguars of Garnet Valley. We're eager to see how well coach Mike Ricci and his players fare in the Central League against formidable Ridley, Conestoga and Strath Haven.
K is for kickers. North Penn has one of the state's best in Brandon McManus. He booted a 55-yard field goal last season against Pennridge. The Public League has two strong-legged players: George Washington's Will McFillin and Northeast's Tim Freiling.
