In the four years since the shooting, Patricia Trippley has worked to memorialize her son in ways that would help young people and reflect her son's interests. She has done it all under the auspices of the William Trippley Youth Development Foundation.

She has given scholarships to youth at her church, organized an annual art exhibit, and worked with her son's best friend, Neal Regino, to organize a youth soccer league.

William Trippley was a standout player for Shipley and on championship club teams in the area. He liked to sketch, wore his hair in signature locks, and smiled so broadly that his eyes nearly closed, Patricia Trippley said.

In addition to working with the foundation, Patricia Trippley has spent the years since her son's death working her way toward forgiveness.

Trippley's son and Cropps grew up together. Cropps lived across the street, and the two played together as youngsters, Patricia Trippley said.

"At first, of course, I hated him and the whole world, but now I don't have any animosity, and I told [Cropps'] mother to tell him," Patricia Trippley said. "Don't get me wrong, he still has to pay, but I forgive him and I'd like the opportunity to tell him that."
