They've Felt the Heat Before

October 09, 2008

Facing 6-foot-4, 290-pound reliever Jonathan Broxton will not be new for the Phillies. They have seen the 100-m.p.h. fireballer three times this season. He earned a save in the first game, was the winning pitcher in the second, and blew a save in the third. Here is a look at those games:

Aug. 11 at Los Angeles, Dodgers 8, Phillies 6: Broxton earned the save - but barely, giving up a two-run single to Chase Utley in the ninth inning before Ryan Howard grounded out with two on to end the game.

Story continues below.

Aug. 13 at Los Angeles, Dodgers 7, Phillies 6: Broxton pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the victory, striking out two of three before Nomar Garciaparra homered in the Dodgers' final at-bat.

Aug. 24 at Citizens Bank Park, Phillies 5, Dodgers 2, in 11 innings: Broxton gave up a game-tying single to Pedro Feliz with two outs in the ninth to blow the save, and the Phillies won in the 11th on Feliz's three-run homer.
