The Phillies will open their first title defense in 28 years earlier than they originally thought. ESPN announced yesterday that the Phillies' season-opener against the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park will be featured on Sunday Night Baseball Opening Night telecast on ESPN2 on April 5. The game was originally scheduled for April 6.
A Phillies spokesman said he did not know how the date change would affect the final two games of the series, scheduled for April 8-9.
One of the big reasons for the Phillies' second consecutive National League East title was their success against the Braves, whom they defeated in 14 out of 18 games during the 2008 regular season. *
