On defense, sophomore end Aaron Maybin made the first team along with junior tackle Jared Odrick (coaches only), sophomore linebacker Navorro Bowman, and senior safety Anthony Scirrotto of West Deptford (coaches only).
Sophomore running back Evan Royster was a second-team selection in both votes. On one second team or the other were senior wide receiver Deon Butler, senior cornerback Lydell Sargeant and sophomore guard Stefen Wisniewski, as well as Williams, Scirrotto and Odrick.
Also mentioned in the voting were senior wide receiver Jordan Norwood, junior tackle Dennis Landolt of Burlington, N.J., senior defensive end Josh Gaines, senior linebacker Tyrell Sales, senior cornerback Tony Davis, senior safety Mark Rubin, and junior punter Jeremy Boone.
Paterno previously won Big Ten coaching honors after the 1994 and 2005 seasons.
Iowa running back Shonn Greene, a Winslow Township graduate from Sicklerville, was named Big Ten offensive player of the year.
Clark was also named offensive player of the week for the second time this season for his play in Penn State's 49-18 win over Michigan State on Saturday. He threw for 341 yards and four touchdowns on 16-of-26 passing and also ran for a score. Clark shared the honor with the Purdue quarterback Curtis Painter.
Maybin was chosen as one of three finalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award given annually to the nation's best defensive player by the Maxwell Club.
The winners will be announced Dec. 11 on ESPN.
Staying put. Odrick, who could leave a season early for the NFL, told reporters after Saturday's game that it was not his last as a Lion.
"I'm not going anywhere," he said. "I've got quite a few left."
Junior defensive end Maurice Evans was not as definitive when asked the same question.
"That's not even on my mind," he said. "I hadn't even decided on leaving or not leaving. That's still up in the air."
Before the season, Evans, a first-team Big Ten selection last year, was considered a possible first-round NFL pick. But he missed three games this season when he was suspended and his play suffered by the time he returned.
In September, police found marijuana residue in the apartment of Evans and defensive tackle Abe Koroma. Both players were held out of the next three games.
