Radio days and kissing Andy Reid

January 08, 2009
  • J.C. Romero after getting the final out of the eighth inning in Game 5 of the World Series. He is less excited these days.

Was listening to the radio, and someone suggested that - like the Pats after the Spygate scandal broke - the Phillies' title is somehow tainted because of the J.C. Romero situation. What say you?

In other, more Southern news, Jessica Simpson was included in the Dallas Cowboys wives' cookbook. First, I love that such a cookbook exists. Second, I love that Simpson is in it, even though she and Tony Romo aren't married. Third, how many recipes for a heaping portion of Fail can there possibly be?

Speaking of radio, my sources tell me you were ripping me on WIP with Angelo Cataldi the other day. Is there any truth to this rumor, you team player, you?

One hundred percent true. Threw you under the bus, then backed up. They were talking about your wet kiss to Andy Reid, and I said I don't go in for that kind of thing. I'm afraid of what I would catch.

Still love you, though. Let's hug soon.

Well, if you are a reasoned and experienced journalist and don't do something stupid - like fire the coach in print as certain tilted-headed writers did - you have the freedom to write impartially later. It's a lesson you might consider learning.

"Learning?" I'm unfamiliar with it.

I've thought about this a bit and I do not think the Romero thing taints the Phillies' championship. That opinion would change if further developments reveal Romero was cheating in a more direct way. Based on what we know, he was tested randomly in August and September. Upon hearing of the positive tests, he immediately ceased using the supplement in question. When he was tested again in early October, before the start of the playoffs, he was clean. The supplement was not in his system.

With steroids and such, I know there is a physical benefit after the stuff is out of your system, but this is not a steroid. Bottom line: I don't believe Romero illegally gained an advantage that helped him get one out in the postseason.

What's Romo's recipe, duck in pick-ante sauce?

See, that Phil Sheridan is a pro. He doesn't get distracted by what is or isn't said on the radio. He just answers the questions at hand. That's a lesson we could all learn.

Phil, if Johnzo had a laughfest on the air at your expense with Angelo, what might your reaction be?

Total misrepresentation! It wasn't a "laughfest." No one was laughing but me and a few thousand listeners.

And you probably think they were  laughing "with" you.

They weren't?
