Jared Ross scored a hat trick, and the Phantoms benefited from the presence of Flyers center Danny Briere to fillet the Worcester Sharks, 7-1, last night in an AHL game at the Wachovia Spectrum.
The Phantoms bounced back after being shut out on the road in their previous two games.
Briere, loaned to the Phantoms for a two-game conditioning stint, had a goal and an assist. He has not played for the Flyers since Dec. 2 because of a groin injury.
The Phantoms' special teams were a major factor, going a perfect 5 for 5 on the penalty kill and 3 for 5 on the power play.
Sean Curry broke the Phantoms' scoreless streak early in the game, which led the team's first four-goal period of the season.
Just three minutes into the second, the Phantoms took a 5-0 lead on a shot by Jonathan Matsumoto off a rebound.
After picking up an assist in the first period, Briere scored during a shorthanded situation for a 6-0 lead - and the game was still in the second period.
The Sharks were finally able to beat Phantoms goaltender Scott Munroe with 6 minutes, 29 seconds left in the second period on a shot by Lukas Kaspar.
The Phantoms answered in the waning moments of the period when Ross completed his hat trick. With 1:15 left to play in the second period, the scoring had been completed.
Munroe handled a Worcester barrage, stopping 42 of 43 shots to earn the win.
Sharks goaltender Thomas Greiss turned aside 16 of 23 shots in taking the loss.
Briere also is expected to play tomorrow night against the Lowell Devils at home.
