Kalas' final-out call was his favorite

March 19, 2009

"Struck him out! The Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 world champions of baseball!"

That was Harry Kalas' call for the final out of the World Series, and it was also his favorite memory from the season.

Kalas called the out live on radio, which was a lot more exciting than having to recreate the out days later on audio tape, as he had to when the Phils won the World Series in 1980. In those days, only the rights-holding national network broadcast the World Series.

Story continues below.

"It was great to be able to call the final out," the Hall of Fame voice of the Phillies said. "And it was so fitting that it was a Brad Lidge strikeout. The kind of year he had will rarely be repeated." - Jim Salisbury
