The Phillies family does swimmingly well in this pool

Along with the glittering championship rings they will receive April 8 and offseason income from appearances, the Phillies each received an extra paycheck for postseason play.

As the World Series winner, the Phillies split a pool of $18,417,357.91. The team awarded 45 full shares, 7.039 partial shares and 15 cash awards. A full share is worth $351,504.48; a full share for the runner-up Tampa Bay Rays is $233,390.05.

The Phillies have not released a list of who received the shares, but virtually anyone associated with the club is eligible.

The players' pool is derived from 60 percent of the gate receipts from the first three games of the Division Series and 60 percent of the gate receipts from the first four games of the League Championship Series and the World Series. That pool is divided among 12 teams - the eight playoff teams and the four teams that finished the regular season in second place in their respective divisions but did not qualify for the postseason.

The amount of the pool fluctuates from year to year based on the gate receipts, and the amount of each share changes based on how many are doled out.

By comparison, each share for the 1980 champion Phillies was worth $34,693. A share did not exceed $100,000 until 1988.

As for the rings, the Phillies have been extremely tight-lipped about the design and any details. Team president David Montgomery has said a committee of Phillies representatives was charged with the design process. *
