Brown to be there for 'Nova vs. UNC

April 01, 2009

The NBA scheduling gods smiled on Larry Brown. His Charlotte Bobcats will travel to Detroit on Saturday for a game the next day against the Pistons, which will allow Brown to attend the Final Four at Ford Field on Saturday night.

The North Carolina alum and former 76ers head coach will be in the stands to watch the Tar Heels play Villanova in the second half of the doubleheader. Connecticut will play Michigan State in the opener.

Brown is a die-hard North Carolina supporter, but also counts Villanova coach Jay Wright among his inner circle of friends. While working as a consultant for the Sixers before returning this year to coaching with the Bobcats, Brown was omnipresent at Villanova practices. He recently credited Wright with resuscitating his basketball career.

Story continues below.

Wright received a text message from Brown after the Wildcats' win over Pittsburgh in the regional final Saturday, but he did not know that Brown plans on being in the stands for the Final Four.

"Guess he'll be in the Carolina section," Villanova athletic director Vince Nicastro said.
