Kalas, Ashburn reunion

It's like a conversation on a crowded bus, instead of one between you and a friend in your car.

So give it a try. Who knows, maybe we'll like what we hear.

And maybe someday Scott Franzke will find his own place - a few shelves down from Harry, of course - in our memories.

Carousel rides, too? Most broadcasters possess a fine grasp of the English language. A few showed their linguistic shortcomings this weekend.

Story continues below.

On Thursday, in listing the weekend events the Phillies had planned to honor Kalas, one constantly referred to them as "festivities."

Then, during an 11 p.m. newscast on Friday, another sportscaster called that night's somber ballpark commemoration "a celebration."

Sometimes the right word is worth a thousand pictures.

A familiar refrain. The popular story line after the Flyers' Game 1 playoff loss was one that could have been written after dozens of other Flyers losses in dozens of other Flyers postseasons:

They took too many stupid penalties and were too quick to retaliate.

Someday this franchise will get the message that it's not 1975 anymore.
