Mr. Myles was not only a man of the cloth. His son said he retired in 1993 after a long career as an English teacher at South Philadelphia High School.
"He always had two full-time jobs," his son said.
Mr. Myles joined White Rock Baptist Church in Philadelphia as a youth minister in 1962, was installed as pastor of First Baptist Church of Wayne in 1979, and retired there in February.
He was a past president of the Baptist Ministers' Conference of Philadelphia and Vicinity and a former assistant treasurer of the Foreign Mission Board of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.
Besides his son, he is survived by his wife, Thelma; daughter, Charisse; and three grandchildren.
A viewing will be from 4 to 7:15 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, 1012 Upper Gulph Rd., Wayne, followed by a tribute service at 7:30 p.m.
A second viewing will be from 8 to 10:45 a.m. tomorrow at White Rock Baptist Church, 5240 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral there. Burial will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd.
